On November 6, 2024, the first-ever group exhibition of graduating students
from Turku Arts Academy’s Master’s Degree Program in Photography will open at
the Köysiratagalleria and nearby Amiraalistonkatu Warehouses. The exhibition, titled
Realities I Todellisuuksia, will showcase the work of 12 artists who come from various
regions of Finland and different backgrounds. Divided between two gallery spaces, the
exhibition offers a cross-section of the artistic thesis projects, featuring a wide range
of photographic art executed in diverse techniques and materials.
The exhibition approaches photography not only from individual perspectives but also
by exploring communal and societal themes. The works on display include analog
photography, AI-assisted art, mixed-media pieces, installations, and art that can be
experienced both visually and through multiple senses. All students are already
accomplished in their fields, having pursued artistically ambitious and significant
projects.
Turku University of Applied Sciences' photography program has produced
numerous prominent artists in both the Finnish and international
contemporary art scenes. The Master’s Degree in Photography builds on this legacy,
offering students an opportunity for more in-depth expertise in photographic art. The
program is taught by professional photographic artists Taina Erävaara, Ismo
Luukkonen, Harri Pälviranta, and Jari Silomäki. The next application period for the
program will be in spring 2025.
